Rubber Banding

Rubber banding is Gartell and Son's newest water drainage application, using rubber granules to offer an efficient and cost effective alternative to conventional drainage materials, such as sand (difficult to place if damp), grit (can cause health and safety concerns if spilled on the playing surface) and stone (subject to extraction taxes and high haulage costs). In addition, both sand and grit can cause damage to cyclinder mowers.

Recycled rubber granules are highly effective when used in conjunction with an effective primary drainage system. Reports back from our customers say that the rubber banding is far superior to other methods used in the same soil profile. Wet playing areas disrupt play and are costly to put right, not to mention incurring loss of revenue from postponed games.

Rubber banding is a valuable secondary drainage operation that will help ensure water is able to percolate through the sports turf for removal by the main drainage systems. Often secondary drainage is installed to rejuvenate existing pipe drainage systems which have become capped over. Most secondary drainage systems rely on regular maintenance, and will normally require top dressing with approved sand.
